About Rachael John-West
Rachael is a Relentless Youth Worker at YOUCAN Youth Services. She grew up in the inner-city of Edmonton, seeing the issues and brokenness in our community from a young age, and wanting to do something about it. She went to school in French at the University of Ottawa and got her Bachelor of Social Work Degree with the privilege of doing one of her 3-month practicums in Cape Town, South Africa with a UNHCR funded organization. After graduating, she was a Health Advocate at Boyle McCauley Health Center for 3 years working with complex cases of homelessness, addiction, mental health, and physical disabilities.
She has a love for travelling and learning different ways of life, so she took a long backpacking trip through Asia, where she interned 3 months in Cambodia at an NGO working to get children out of the sex trade. When she came back to Edmonton, she started at YOUCAN in 2018, accomplishing her goal of working with youth and allowing her to bring her talents to the table. She is passionate about building genuine relationships and uses music, art, and laughter as a tool to empower the youth towards wholeness. She is also a singer, recently releasing her first project that embodies her personal journey of healing. She loves her job as it allows for real lasting change in the youth’s lives, giving them the tools to be independent, successful in their goals and breaking harmful cycles.
